If you purchased your home between 2003 - 2007 you are likely being assessed more than your property is worth and paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars more each year than you should. However, in order to get you taxes reduced you must submit an Application for Changed Assessment with the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, Assessment appeals Services. Here is a link to this form. This can be a time consuming process as you need to provide justification, including comparable sales to make the case that your property value has declined. As well, be prepared, the Assessor's office is about 1 year behind, so when you file for 2009, you will not get notified if it is approved until 2010. At that time the Assessor will credit you back the taxes you over paid.
